Sometimes

Sometimes you start out the day in a bad mood, even though you are on a super cool vacation at Lake Tahoe, and you're driving around in a boat, and you're with fun friends. Your parents think it's just because you're 14, but you will neither confirm nor deny.

Sometimes when you're forced to do such horrible things, it's nice just to sit in the boat and watch the wake and think about things and chill out.

Sometimes your dad and Jared decide to go swimming in the middle of Lake Tahoe, even though the water is about 55 degrees, just because they are manly men and they want to be able to say that they did it.

Sometimes, in spite of yourself, you start laughing at your dad for the faces he pulls in the freezing cold water.

Sometimes you laugh at Jared because he stays in the water for about 90 seconds before deciding it's too cold.

Sometimes, at this point, you decide maybe you're in a good mood after all. Not that you'll smile for the camera or anything to show it. But yeah, you're in a good mood.

Sometimes your dad just can't stop goofing off.

Sometimes neither can your little sister.

Sometimes Jared wears a floppy hat and looks pensive.

Sometimes you just can't get over how beautiful Lake Tahoe is.

Sometimes the ladies want pictures of themselves.

Sometimes Livvy and your little sister get to drive the boat with the help of the dads.

But sometimes you get to drive the boat unassisted.

And you're totally chilling and enjoying it.

Sometimes your little sister and your dad decide to go swimming again.

And sometimes it takes some persuasion to get you to go swimming, too.

"Come on, Nathan!"

Sometimes you hesitate. For a long time.

But then finally you jump.

And then sometimes you realize it's totally fun.

Sometimes you decide boating in Lake Tahoe with family and friends is awesome.

Let's do it again next year!

Oh, Chloe is so right there with Nate and that 14-year-old attitude. It just crept up on all of us in the last 3 months. Amazing, really. I hope we all get a break from it soon, especially the children, for it's probably most confusing to them (while most frustrating to us).

Awww I love it! What a fun vacation that was. That day on the boat was the best! Love your writing Kate, and I loved that Nathan ended up having a good time. :)

Love the internal dialogue. Looks like a great trip even if you have a "tude."
